Shrink Sleeve Materials
The following is a general indication of
shrink sleeves and their characteristics. In different markets there
may be different price structures and/or other film availability.
Polyvinyl Chlorine (PVC)
Polyethylene Terephthalate gly (PETg)
Polyethylene Terephthalate gLV (PETg)
LV
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
Most cost effective of the popular films used in the N. American Market
Very popular material and is still in high demand
Presently used for applications that do not require high shrink
rates (ex. Don't use on curved bottles)
56%-64% shrink rate
50-60 degrees C Activation temp
Scuff Resistant
Receptive to water based, UV and metallic inks
Biggest negative is environmental, also if used on recycled PET
containers is an issue.
Polyethylene Terephthalate g (PETg)
Polyethylene Terephthalate g (PETg)
Petroleum based resin – pricing tied to crude oil prices
Gaining in popularity in N American Market
More environmentally friendly than PVC, compatible with most
recycling set ups
Higher shrink rates; 70%-78%
70-80 degrees C Activation temp
Scuff Resistant
Receptive to water based, UV and metallic inks
Used for application that require high shrink (ex. Curved
bottles)
5-7% more expensive than PVC
Polyethylene Terephthalate gLV (PETg) LV
Polyethylene Terephthalate gLV (PETg) LV
Reduces shrink issues on most challenging containers
LV Stands
for Low Vertical shrinking
Engineered for contoured bottles that require a lot of shrink
Receptive to water based, UV and metallic inks
Shrinks 70-78% depending on container and material supplier,
reduces or eliminates shrink in the vertical or machine
direction (MD).
Material designed to grow about 1% (MD) on difficult
applications to reduce smiles and frowns
Supply chain depending on supplier is usually longer than PVC
and PETg
3-5% more expensive than PETg
